Martin Cooper is a marketing professional with extensive experience in strategic planning, crisis management, public relations, community outreach, organizational development, promotion, and cause-related marketing. He has been interviewed on these topics by The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, NBC Network News, and more than twenty other news organizations.
He is Chairman/CEO of Edifice Rex and president of his own firm, Cooper Communications, which was founded in 1982, and has represented a broad range of clients, including: the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, City of Santa Barbara, Hollywood Burbank Airport, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles Times, Mattel Toys, Merrill Lynch, CBRE, and others.
Prior to founding his firm, Cooper was Senior Vice President-Marketing and Corporate Communications for Playboy Enterprises, Inc. Previously, he was senior vice president of a major national public relations firm, supervising programs for such clients as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and its Annual Academy Awards, Mattel Toys, and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. Previously, he was Marketing Director for the Recreation Division of Universal Studios, and before that, Advertising and Promotion Manager for Disneyland.
Cooper has supervised more than twenty marketing and public relations programs that have been recognized by his peers, including the profession’s highest award, the Public Relations Society of America’s Silver Anvil.
He has been honored by the U.S. Congress; California State Senate and Assembly; County of Los Angeles; and the City of Los Angeles. He has been a member of commissions, task forces, and authorities under each of the past five mayors of Los Angeles. For nine years he was a member of Los Angeles’ Quality & Productivity Commission and its President for four years. He also served on the Los Angeles Convention Center Authority, and several City of Los Angeles task forces.
Cooper teaches communications, crisis management and other subjects to official visitors to this country on behalf of the U.S. State Department and for the County of Los Angeles. He has also taught courses on marketing, organizational management, crisis communications, public relations, and strategic planning at UCLA, the Western Association of Chamber Executives’ Academy and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Organizational Management.
